02/09/2026How Is Facial Mesotherapy Performed, and Who Is It Suitable For?
When you look in the mirror and your skin seems to say, “I’m tired,” most of the time the only thing missing is moisture. Facial mesotherapy is a treatment that steps in at exactly this point, delivering the nutrients your skin needs directly. In short, this method involves injecting a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and hyaluronic acid into the upper layers of the skin using very fine needles.
In this article, we’ll be talking not about the hair, but about the facial area: the cheeks, forehead, area around the mouth, and the under-eye area—a concern for everyone. This approach targets moisture loss, a dull complexion, and fine lines. If you’re curious about treatments for hair loss, that’s a separate topic; here, I’m focusing entirely on the skin’s vitality.
Highlights
- Facial mesotherapy is a treatment focused on hydration and vitality that delivers a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, and hyaluronic acid into the skin using fine needles.
- The most noticeable effects are improved hydration and radiance; the results typically become apparent after a course of 4–6 sessions.
- Some of the dark circles and hollows under the eyes are caused by dehydrated skin, and this area responds well to treatment.
- The injection portion of each session usually lasts 15 minutes; applying an anesthetic cream with a %5 concentration beforehand enhances comfort.
- This treatment does not fill in wrinkles; it improves the skin’s quality and radiance and is not a substitute for fillers or Botox.
What Is Facial Mesotherapy?
The shortest answer to the question “What is facial mesotherapy?” is this: it involves manually delivering the nutrients needed to the dehydrated and tired layers of the skin. Vitamins taken orally are largely depleted before they reach the skin; here, however, the mixture goes straight to the target area. That’s why the effect is both faster and more localized.
The needles used in this procedure are thinner than a strand of hair and deposit the mixture 1–2 mm below the surface. The goal is not to plump the skin, but to nourish it from within and replenish its moisture reserves. What Are the Benefits of Facial Mesotherapy?
The main benefit of this treatment is in improving skin quality. It doesn’t eliminate a single wrinkle, but it tangibly improves the skin’s overall texture, hydration, and tone. My clients usually describe the first thing they notice as, “My skin looks refreshed.”.
The main issues the application aims to address are as follows:
- Moisture loss: Hyaluronic acid supports the skin's ability to retain moisture, reducing the feeling of dryness and tightness.
- Dull skin: With vitamin support, a dull, gray appearance gives way to a more vibrant tone.
- Fine lines: Surface lines caused by dehydration are softened by the plump, hydrated skin.
- Under-eye area: The redness and bruising in the area improve slightly as the skin becomes moist.
- Pores and roughness: As the skin's surface improves, even makeup looks more natural.
All the benefits and what to expect for each skin type Benefits of Mesotherapy I've covered this in detail in my article.
Which Cocktail Is Used in Skin Mesotherapy?
The heart of what we call skin mesotherapy is the mixture in that small vial. I select the ingredients based on the condition of your skin; it wouldn’t be right to use the same formula for everyone. The ratio I use to nourish dry skin is different from the one I use for oily, pore-prone skin.
The core of the blend typically consists of hyaluronic acid, B vitamins, various amino acids, and trace minerals. In some formulations, I also add antioxidant support. What matters isn’t the abundance of ingredients, but what the skin actually needs that day.
What Is the Process Like for a Facial Rejuvenation Mesotherapy Treatment?
A facial rejuvenation mesotherapy session is less intense than you might think. First, I cleanse your face, then I apply a topical anesthetic cream to reduce sensitivity. The cream I use contains lidocaine and prilocaine in a 1:3:5 ratio, and it takes about half an hour to take effect.
Once the numbing effect has set in, I apply the mixture to the skin in small sections, using very light strokes. The injection part usually takes about fifteen minutes. Afterward, I cool the area, soothe any mild redness, and explain the aftercare recommendations for the next few days one by one. The technical details of the steps How Is Mesotherapy Performed? I explored this in more depth in my article.
| Target Area | Top Priority Issue | Expected Effect |

Who Is a Good Candidate for Facial Mesotherapy, and Who Should Postpone It?
This treatment is suitable for just about anyone with dehydrated skin, skin that’s been damaged by smoking or sun exposure, or skin that looks dull even under makeup. There’s no strict age limit; it’s also a popular choice for preventive care starting in your late twenties. If your goal is to refresh your skin, you’ve come to the right place.
In some cases, however, it is necessary to postpone the session. It is best to wait during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, if there is an active infection or a cold sore in the treatment area, or if you have an uncontrolled skin condition. If you are taking blood thinners, please let me know in advance so that we can work together to reduce the risk of bruising.
How Many Sessions and Courses Are Needed?
A single session will give you a nice boost of freshness, but you’ll need a full course of treatments for lasting results. I generally recommend a plan of 4–6 sessions, spaced two or three weeks apart. Your skin improves a little more with each session, and the effects build up gradually.
After the treatment course is complete, a follow-up session every few months is sufficient to maintain the results. Your skin type, age, and goals may cause this frequency to vary slightly. That’s why we’ll work together to finalize the treatment schedule during our first consultation—I won’t impose a fixed regimen on you.
What Should You Keep in Mind After Your First Session?
Following a few simple rules after your session will directly enhance the results. On the first day, avoid exposing your skin to the sun and refrain from wearing heavy makeup to allow the injection sites to heal properly. Drinking plenty of water also helps the mixture distribute more evenly within the skin.
The things you should avoid are also clear. You should avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise on the same day; heat and sweating can make the redness worse. Rubbing or scratching the area is also not recommended. These small precautions are limited to a few days; after that, you can return to your normal routine.
Are Facial Mesotherapy and Hair Mesotherapy the Same Thing?
They are often confused, but their goals are completely different. The facial treatment targets the skin’s moisture, tone, and radiance, while hair mesotherapy aims to nourish the scalp and slow hair loss. The mixture used, the needle depth, and the frequency of sessions also differ.
So, if you’re here for your face, we won’t be discussing a hair treatment plan. I do have clients for whom I schedule both treatments separately during the same period, but each follows its own regimen and schedule. The focus of this article is entirely on the facial area.
Realistic Expectations: What Do They Provide, and What Don't They?
Let’s be honest: this treatment isn’t some magic that turns back the clock by ten years. What it does is improve your skin’s natural condition and keep it hydrated and radiant. The result looks natural and similar to your own skin—it doesn’t create a change that makes people say, “You’ve had work done.”.
Deep wrinkles, noticeable sagging, or volume loss aren’t what this is for; that’s where fillers or Botox come in. Think of this treatment as the top step in your skincare routine. It strengthens the foundation and enhances the results of other treatments applied on top of it.
Looking at the history of the method, its roots go back a long way. According to Wikipedia, the mesotherapy technique was developed in the 1950s by French physician Michel Pistor and is based on the principle of delivering substances into the middle layer of the skin through small injections; for more details, Mesotherapy You can read about it on the page. The approach we use today for the facial area is also based on this foundation.
I’ll tailor the plan to how your skin behaves in each season and based on your habits; I don’t use a one-size-fits-all template—I work specifically with your skin. Frequently Asked Questions
When will the effects of the treatment become apparent?
After the first session, a slight feeling of freshness and hydration in the skin is usually noticeable within a few days. Lasting changes in skin tone and texture become apparent as the treatment progresses. The greatest satisfaction is typically felt after the third session.
Does facial mesotherapy really work for under-eye areas?
Some under-eye dark circles are caused by dehydrated, thin skin; as this area becomes more hydrated, it appears more rested. However, this may not be sufficient on its own for pronounced dark circles caused by vascular issues or sagging. In that case, we’ll evaluate the area together and discuss a different treatment plan.
Will I feel any pain during the procedure?
Because the needles are very fine, the sensation is usually limited to a slight prick. The topical anesthetic cream I apply beforehand significantly reduces this sensation. Most clients tolerate the session comfortably.
Can I go out on the same day after the procedure?
Yes, most patients return to their daily lives right away. There may be some mild redness on the skin that can last a few hours. It’s enough to avoid the sun, heavy makeup, and hot environments that day.
Can facial mesotherapy replace fillers or Botox?
No, they serve different purposes. Mesotherapy improves the skin’s hydration and texture; fillers add volume, and Botox softens expression lines. For many patients, I plan these treatments together as complementary steps.
How often does the treatment need to be repeated after the course is finished?
