Guide to Choosing the Right Product for Facial Aesthetics
One of the most common misconceptions of patients in the world of medical aesthetics, dermal fillers products are "uniform". However, our face is anatomically composed of regions with very different layers, movement capacities and skin thicknesses.
Not All Fillers Are the Same: Understanding "G-Prime" and Viscosity
To understand the science behind the choice of filler, it is necessary to refer to the concept of “Rheology” (the science of flow). There are two basic properties that determine the character of a filling:
- G-Prime (Hardness/Bearing Power): It refers to how hard the filler is and how strongly it can lift the tissue. High G-Prime is required for on-bone applications (chin, cheekbones).
- Viscosity and Elasticity: It is how fluid the filler is and how much it can stretch with facial expressions. High flexibility is sought in mobile areas such as lips.
While analyzing your face, your physician actually builds this mathematical equation in his/her head and selects the product with the “consistency” suitable for each area.
Which Filler Should Be Applied to Which Area on Your Face?
Upper Face Area: Revitalizing and Framing the Gaze
Temporal Filling: Firm and Supportive
The temples become hollow due to the fat pads melting with age, causing the face to look “skeletal” and the eyebrows to droop. This area is deep and needs strong support. For this reason, hard and permanent fillers with high lifting capacity, usually applied on the bone, are preferred at the temples. The aim is to fill the gap and move the eyebrow tail upwards.
Under Eye Light Filler: Thin, Fluid and Specialized
The thinnest skin on our body is under the eyes. If you apply a thick filler made for the cheeks here, the filler glows blue under the skin (Tyndall Effect) and causes bagging. “Light Filler” products specially produced for under the eyes, semi-cross-linked, very thin and containing vitamins that nourish the skin should be used. These fillers do not retain water (do not cause edema) and hide bruises by reflecting light.
Mid Face Area: Bearing Columns of the Face
Cheekbones (Zygoma): High Lifting Capacity
The “suspension” point that carries the face up is the cheekbones. Here, dense fillers that are hard enough to mimic the bone structure, do not spread in the tissue and “lift” the face by remaining fixed in place are used. These fillers are placed in the deep plan, on the bone membrane (periosteum).
Cheek (Medial) Area: Smooth Transition and Volume
Unlike the cheekbone, the front part of the cheek (apple cheek) is a soft tissue that moves when we smile. If too hard filling is applied here, a ball-like mass forms on your cheek when you smile. For this reason, fillers that integrate with the tissue, provide a medium hardness and smooth transition are preferred on the front of the cheek.
Nose Filling (Liquid Rhinoplasty): Hard and Non-Slip Structure
The aim of non-surgical rhinoplasty is to hide the arch and lift the tip of the nose. The skin of the nose is tight; hard fillers with a very high G-Prime value are required to push this tight skin. In addition, special products that preserve their form should be selected so that this filling does not spread sideways (widen the nose) over time.
Lower Face Area: Dynamism and Sharp Lines
Lip Fillers The Dance of Elasticity and Volume
The lip is one of the most mobile muscles of the face (Orbicularis Oris). We talk, eat, kiss... Applying a hard filler to this area causes lumps on the lips and the appearance of “duck lips”. “Dynamic Fillers” are specially developed for lips, resistant to pressure but at the same time very flexible. These fillers shrink with your lips when you pucker them and return to their original shape when you release them. The secret of naturalness is in this technology.
Nasolabial and Marionette Lines: Technology to Adapt to Mimics
The lines descending from the edge of the nose to the mouth (Nasolabial) and from the edge of the mouth to the chin (Marionette) are on the smile line. Fillers in these areas should not resist mimic movements and should move with the face. Flexible technologies such as Teosyal RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) are ideal for these areas.
Chin Tip and Jawline: Hard Fillers that Mimic Bone
To sharpen the jawline and highlight the chin tip, we need to emphasize the bone line, not the soft tissue. Just like the cheekbone, the hardest, densest and most permanent fillers (such as Voluma, Volux) are used here. These fillers create a clear and sharp line under the skin, almost like an “implant”.
Special Series for Skin Quality: Skin Booster and Moisture Fillers
Sometimes the goal is not to volumize, but simply to moisturize and brighten the skin. In this case, we recommend “Skin Booster” or "Skin Booster" in fluid form with little or no cross-linking. Youth Vaccine products are applied by spreading them over the entire face, neck and hands. These products do not cause puffiness, but only improve skin quality.
What Happens If the Wrong Filling is Applied to the Wrong Area?
- Thick filler under the eyes: Bagging and edema.
- Hard lip filler: Clumping, numbness and artificial appearance.
- Soft padding for the jaw: There are no sharp lines, the chin becomes rounder and wider.
- Too soft padding on the cheeks: The face sags down, the lifting effect cannot be achieved.
Safety of fillers and their selection according to anatomical regions FDA (American Food and Drug Administration) also emphasizes that the areas of use of the products are specific.
