First 24-48 Hours: "Don't Touch and Wait" Rule (Critical Period)
The first two days after the procedure is the “settling” period of the filler. During this period, you should be gentle and minimalist with your skin.
Water Contact and Hygiene: Keep the Infection Door Closed
The needle entry holes, although invisible to the eye, are an open door for bacteria to enter. These holes usually close within 4-6 hours. Therefore, after the procedure avoid touching water to your face for the first 6 hours is required. After 6 hours, you can wash your face with just warm water and a very gentle (fragrance-free) cleanser, without “scrubbing”. Instead of blotting hard with a towel, you should blot with a paper towel in a tampon motion.
Makeup Ban Pores Breathe
Concealers, foundations and powders are non-sterile products. Applying makeup to the application area during the first 24 hours increases the risk of infection by carrying bacteria under the skin through the needle entrances. If you absolutely need to use concealer, you should prefer medical and sterile concealers recommended by your physician.
Sleep Position Gravity and Pressure Management
Especially after cheek, chin and temple fillers, it is very important to sleep on your back for the first night. Sleeping on your face or side can put pressure on the filler, causing asymmetry or increasing edema (swelling). Keeping your head higher than heart level (double pillow) ensures that you wake up with less swelling in the morning.
Changes in Skin Care Routine: What to Remove, What to Add?
In the first week after fillers, you need to simplify your skin care routine. It is best to take a short break from “active ingredients”.
Ingredients to Avoid: Acids and Retinol
Tonics and peels containing Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid (AHA/BHA) and Retinol (vitamin A) derivatives are powerful ingredients that exfoliate the skin and accelerate cell renewal. However, the skin is already sensitive after the procedure. These products can cause burning, stinging and irritation at the needle entry sites. Therefore, you should take a break from these products until your skin is completely healed (about 1 week).
Friendly Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides
Since the main ingredient of dermal fillers is Hyaluronic Acid (HA), HA serums applied externally support the filler. Products containing Ceramides, which strengthen the skin's moisture barrier, soothing Panthenol (Vitamin B5) and Aloe Vera are ideal for calming the skin after the procedure. Also, if bruising is present, creams containing vitamin K or Arnica accelerate healing.
Avoiding Physical Peeling and Scrubs
Facial scrubs, granulated peels or cleansing brushes (Clarisonic etc.) apply mechanical pressure to the skin. These harsh movements before the filler has set can cause the filler to migrate. You should avoid physical exfoliation for at least 2 weeks.
Facial Massage, Gua Sha and Jade Roller: A Big "No"?
Gua Sha stones, Jade Rollers and facial yoga exercises popular on social media are strictly prohibited for the first 2-3 weeks for those who have fillers. These tools apply pressure to the skin to increase lymphatic drainage. Applying pressure to a freshly made filling can distort the shape given by the physician, crush the filling or push it into unwanted areas. Once your filler has completely set (after a check-up with the doctor), you can start using it gently.
Timing of Filling and Other Medical Procedures
If you are planning another skin treatment after having fillers, you should pay attention to the timing.
Waiting Time for Laser and Radiofrequency
Laser hair removal, Golden Needle or radiofrequency skin rejuvenation procedures create heat under the skin. This heat can disrupt the structure of the newly made filler or cause it to melt faster. After filler application, it is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks (ideally 4 weeks) for procedures involving thermal (heat).
Hydrafacial and Skin Care Appointment
Hydrafacial Vacuum procedures such as vacuum procedures or classical skin care with steam should not be performed immediately after filling. The gravity and massage effect of the vacuum may pose a risk. The safest time is 2 weeks after the filling application.

Water Consumption: Your filling is nourished with water
Hyaluronic acid fillers are “hydrophilic”, meaning they love water and gain volume by retaining water. The more water you drink, the more hydrated your skin stays and the more vibrant, bright and voluminous your filler looks. Dehydration (dehydration) can reduce the effect of the filler.
Sun Protection: UV Rays Break Down Hyaluronic Acid
The harmful UV rays of the sun break down the natural hyaluronic acid in our skin (by activating the enzyme hylauronidase) and break down the injected filler faster. To prolong the life of your filler, it is essential to use SPF 50 sunscreen in summer and winter. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) also emphasizes the positive effect of sun protection on the permanence of cosmetic procedures.
