A feeling of tightness, flakiness, a dull appearance and the appearance of fine wrinkles... For those with dry skin, these symptoms become an uncomfortable part of life, especially in winter or during seasonal transitions. Most people resort to heavy oily creams or layers of serums to relieve this dryness. However, no matter how many products you apply, if your skin cannot get enough moisture, the problem may not be in the products, but in your skin's capacity to "accept" those products.
What is Dry Skin (Xerosis)? Why Just Applying Cream Is Not Enough?
Dry skin is a condition in which the epidermis, the top layer of the skin, lacks sufficient water and lipids. When the skin's protective barrier is weakened, the skin cannot retain water and the moisture evaporates (Transepidermal Water Loss). This makes the skin sensitive, itchy and prematurely aged.
So why are home creams not enough? Because when the skin's self-renewal cycle (turnover) slows down, dead skin cells cannot be removed from the skin surface and accumulate. This dead layer (keratinocytes) covers the skin like an “armor”. Even if you apply the world's most expensive moisturizer on this armor, the product cannot reach the living lower layers of the skin, it remains only on the surface. The first task of Hydrafacial is to remove this armor.
Intensive Hydration for Dry Skin with Hydrafacial
How Does Hydrafacial Work on Dry Skin? The Moisture Power of Vortex Technology
Hydrafacial uses a technology called “Hydradermabrasion”. This means that it gently exfoliates the skin “with the power of water and active serums”, not by sanding with microcrystals (microdermabrasion). This is a vital difference for sensitive and dry skin. Dry skin cannot tolerate mechanical friction and irritation. Hydrafacial, on the other hand, uses patented Vortex-Fusion® technology to vacuum out dead skin and pump intense moisture into the skin at the same time, without irritating the skin. This is like “washing and moisturizing” the skin.
Step-by-Step Moisture Therapy Protocol: Special Touches for Dry Skin
Our Hydrafacial protocol for dry skin focuses on barrier repair and moisture rather than aggressive cleansing.
Step 1: Gentle Exfoliation (Removing the Dead Skin Barrier)
The treatment starts with the “Activ-4™” solution, which softens the skin and gently dissolves dead cells. This solution contains glucosamine and algae extract. It gently removes the flaky appearance that is the biggest problem of dry skin and reveals the fresh, moisture-hungry skin underneath. This step maximizes the skin's absorption capacity.
Step 2: Cleaning the Pores (Vacuum Purification)
Although pores on dry skin are usually small, they can still fill up. In this step with the “Beta-HD™” solution, the pores are vacuum cleaned while soothing and moisturizing ingredients such as honey extract are infused into the skin. This is a deep cleansing without drying out the skin.
Step 3: Hyaluronic Acid and Antioxidant Bath (Antiox+)
This is the most critical stage for dry skin. The “Antiox+™” serum is injected under pressure into the cleansed, pore-opened and exfoliated skin. This serum contains
- Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid: It holds 1000 times its own weight in water, saturating and plumping the skin with moisture.
- Antioxidants (Horse Chestnut, Green Tea): Protects and soothes the skin against environmental damage.
- Peptides Increases skin elasticity.
"Booster" Power for Dry Skin: NassifMD® Hydraglucan™
The standard Hydrafacial is great, but for very dry and dehydrated skin we use “Booster” serums in our clinic. The most popular of these is the one developed by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif NassifMD® Hydraglucan™ Intense Hydration Boosteris. This special serum not only moisturizes the skin but also triggers the skin's own production of hyaluronic acid. It contains betaine and yeast extracts to repair the skin's moisture barrier and increase its fullness. For dry skin, this is a “turbo” effective moisture boost.
Why Hydrafacial in Winter and Seasonal Transitions?
In winter, cold air and indoor heating systems quickly rob the skin of moisture. During seasonal transitions, the skin experiences adaptation problems and becomes dry. During these periods, regular (once a month) Hydrafacial, keeps the skin's moisture reservoir full. Moisturized skin is much more resistant to cold, wind and cracking. About skin dryness and skin care American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) also emphasizes the importance of gentle treatments that protect the skin's barrier.
Post-Treatment Effects: "Glass Skin" Appearance and Barrier Repair
Immediately after the procedure, when you look in the mirror, you see that your dry and dull skin has been replaced by a smooth, light-reflecting and moisture-saturated skin called “Glass Skin”. Fine wrinkles (lines of lack of moisture) are smoothed out and the skin feels fuller and more elastic. This effect lasts for weeks when supported by the right home care.
